What is Dry Fog Dust Suppression?

Dry fog is a dust control technology that uses compressed air and water to create an extremely fine mist of droplets — typically 1 to 15 microns in size.

These droplets are so small they appear as a light fog rather than a spray. Because they are similar in size to airborne dust particles, they collide and bond with dust in the air, causing it to fall harmlessly out of suspension.

The result:

  • Dust is controlled at its source.
  • Material and equipment remain dry.
  • Workers and communities benefit from cleaner, safer air.

How Dry Fog Works

At the heart of the system are dual-fluid nozzles. Compressed air accelerated to ultrasonic velocities shears water into an ultra-fine stream of droplets as they leave the nozzle which achieves airborne dust control.

  • This process atomises the water into ultra-fine droplets (1–15 μm).
  • Droplets are projected into dust-laden air at transfer points, crushers, or bins.
  • Dust particles and droplets agglomerate, becoming too heavy to remain airborne.

Because the fog is so fine, it adds negligible moisture to material flow, making it ideal for bulk material handling dust control where product quality matters.

Why Dry Fog is Better for Dust Control

Water Efficient

Significant reduction in water usage compared to conventional dust suppression.

Effective Dust Control

The generated water based fog is effective at removing respirable dust particles in the PM10 and PM2.5 range.

Comprehensive Coverage

With the way fog flows, it reaches areas where traditional water sprays cannot reach.

Environmentally Friendly

Non-toxic using only water. Safe for workers and the surrounding environment.

Low Maintenance

Nozzles are not complex and the entire system runs only on water and compressed air.

Flexible deployment

Ideal for mining, quarrying, construction, grain, ports and general bulk material handling.

dust suppression

If the droplets are too large, they won't interact with fine airborne dust. True dry fog systems are engineered to create micron-sized droplets that target the PM2.5 & PM10 dust particles which are most harmful to health and the environment

Applications of Dry Fog

Dry Fog dust suppression is effective anywhere dust becomes airborne during handling or processing, including:

  • Mining and quarrying operations
  • Bulk material handling and storage
  • Storage bins & silos
  • Construction sites
  • Recycling and waste management facilities
  • Ports and shipping yards
  • and many more!
